The New Taipei Museum of Art will mark a turning point in the development on “Greater Taipei” for decades to come. It will combine education, tourism, exhibition and recreation in a new architectural language. Within Group8asia’s proposal the ambition differs from the traditional urban museum typology. In this instance, the aim is to formulate a new architecture that is traditional as well as futuristic, sensible as well as sensational.
We propose to place all exhibition spaces on a unique underground level. We imagine an almost utopian condition where different arts can be perceived as single narrative moments of chronological coincidence, autonomy, influence and convergence. The New Taipei Museum of Art will be conceived as a group of huge lanterns, with exhibition life under an open-air plaza.
